Weinquiz works without an account. This is what stays in your browser, what reaches our server and who runs the site.
What stays in your browser
Your progress, that is nickname, points, streak, badges, statistics and settings, lives in your browser’s storage (localStorage) and nowhere else. You can delete it in the profile at any time. To recognise you on the leaderboard the app creates a random player id; it is linked to no person.
Leaderboard
If you finish a daily quiz and submit the result, we store nickname, player id, score, time and date in a database at Amazon Web Services in Frankfurt. No email address, no account, no IP address. “Delete all data” in the profile removes these entries too.
Usage measurement
To see which quizzes are played, Weinquiz counts a few events (for example “daily quiz started”) with a random session number that ends with the tab. Stored are the event, time, language and the country according to the network. No IP address, no cookie, no profile.
Google Analytics loads only if you explicitly agree below or in the banner. You can withdraw your consent here at any time.
Hosting
The site is served by Amazon Web Services (Frankfurt) and the CloudFront content delivery network. Technical access logs are kept briefly to detect outages.
Content and sources
The questions and the knowledge pages draw on public sources: for Switzerland Swiss Wine Promotion, the cantonal wine offices and the Federal Office for Agriculture, for the world the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV), the appellation bodies and wine authorities of the producing countries, and standard wine references. Figures are rounded. Spotted a mistake? Write to us.
